Introducing XML Master to Tim Bray

When I had a talk with Tim Bray, I explained XML Master, a certification program for XML technology engineering skills. Since it was established in 2001, more than 10,000 engineers acquired XML Master Certificate and they are recognized that they have objective skill of XML technology.

This time, I presented 2 figures to him so that he could understand how XML education is desired in Japan. First figure (fig.1) is a survey conducted to know the motivation for getting particular certification. As the result, XML Master is the one the most engineers want to get, even more than Oracle Master (BTW, maybe many people don’t know the fact that Oracle Master was established in Japan) and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).

The second one (fig.2), which Tim showed strong interest, represents the skill map of major technologies. The vertical line (Desired skill) shows the ratio of engineers who wants to learn them. The horizontal line (Acquired skill) shows the ratio of engineers who already have skills of them. Most of the new technologies start from left-upper corner and going down to left-lower corner via right-upper and right-lower corner. You can see how XML and Web Service technologies are hot in the field.
